My Word of the Week is Messy! How Chronic Pain from Fibromyalgia, Psoriatic Arthritis, and a Botched Hysterectomy Made a Mess of My Plans and Home.

Living with chronic pain is messy.

What kind of mess did chronic pain from my botched hysterectomy, fibromyalgia, and psoriatic arthritis make this week?

Read on to find out!

Bless My Messy Home

Unlike the flares I experience from fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis, my abdominal flares often last for several months. The average for a severe abdominal flare is 3-6 months. This is too long to put my life on hold, so instead, I modify it.

Realizing that I am in for a long and painful ride, my husband and I decided to not put our redecorating and organization plans on hold. We also came to terms with the fact that my current pain level is going to increase the time we need to finish our projects. But that didn’t stop me from ordering everything as I would if I had the stamina to finish on time.

Currently, our living room looks like an Amazon packing center, the master bathroom is partially completed, and the master bedroom looks like my closet vomited all of its contents. What would have been an easy project prior to this flare has become what feels like a major renovation. LOL. My hope is to have it done in the next few weeks.

Outside of the picture of my new fruit basket, you will have to wait to see the fun themes I chose for the other rooms.

I bought this fruit basket because of the subtle Mickey shapes.

My Messy Body

My abdomen is swollen and sore. I thought I had reached the peak of adhesions ripping from my sidewall, but NOPE!! This week has been a doozy!!!

Unlike the rest of my body, I cannot run PEMF treatments on my belly while adhesions are ripping from my sidewall and/or internal organs. They are currently pulling my intestines. Anyways, I experienced some much welcome pain relief via a PEMF device before this latest round of ripping began. While running the treatments, the swelling and soreness both significantly decreased. It was a much needed reprieve from pain.

Typically I run treatments daily to keep pain from fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis extremely low. But when I have a fresh injury, like a sidewall and internal organs that feel like a layer or more has been ripped from them, I have to stop treatments. The reason for this is because PEMF treatments increase blood flow. When increased near a newly acquired injury it increases the pain I am experiencing. Needing a break to get to the point of being able to run treatments again has given my other chronic conditions an excuse to join in the fun of making my life messy.

This week I have had the “joy” *cough *cough of dealing with muscle and joint pain on top of the horrendous ripping.

Ready to Put this Mess to Rest!

I am fortunate to have a patient, supportive, and helpful, husband. He has been warned that it will be a while until I finish all of our redecorating projects and he is okay with it. We are both enjoying the process of choosing themes for each room and sharing our ideas on how to make them work. And last but not least, he has yet to complain when I have asked him to move furniture, hang things, put stuff together after coming home from a long day of work.

We are in no hurry to clean up our mess, it will happen when it does. In fact, we are taking a break this weekend to spend some time doing something we both enjoy. We will be trying new food at Disneyland’s Food and Wine Festival!!!! Hopefully, we won’t get too messy! Hmmm, is it too late to order an adult bib? Haha!

See what other’s chose for their word of the week!

  1. I’m so glad that you have such a supportive husband and good luck with getting the redecorating done – I am sure that you will get there in the end. So sorry that you’ve had a tough week with pain and hope that this week will be a better one. Love your fruit basket, by the way. #WotW

  2. It’s frustrating I know. Our bedroom needs completely re-arranging and I need a massive purge. But, we currently have builders in which means I can’t even get upstairs and the hubby can’t seem to do anything without his ‘supervisor’ (i.e. me!) We know that it will all be done in the end. When flares happen it’s hard enough to keep up with the simple things like doing the washing, never mind renovations.
