November Darkness

This month was a dark one. With the time change, the sky is pitch dark by 5PM. But that wasn’t the only darkness. Pain, exhaustion, and wondering if it would ever end sent me into a deep pit of depression.

The majority of this month was spent crying. The hardest part was knowing that many of my friends and family would argue about the quality of my life. I have heard them refer to people living with similar health issues that they felt had little to no quality. This is why I share little on personal accounts. I don’t have the energy to prove why my life is worth living.

A Glimmer of Hope

By mid-month, my abdominal pain had increased. I began worrying about whether or not I planned too much over the Thanksgiving holiday. I had already spent my birthday in bed.

To my surprise, I woke up without abdominal swelling the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It returned that afternoon, but not nearly as bad as it had been for the past two months.

The following day I woke once again without swelling, and we headed off to a day of fun at Disneyland. The most magical part of the day was that the swelling didn’t return until that evening. The only downside was a psoriasis outbreak all over my face.

Thanksgiving day went just as well. We spent even more time at Disneyland, and I didn’t swell at all.

I didn’t go on any rides which I think helped considerably.

Although I could still feel rips and internal wounds, the lack of swelling reduced my pain level. I felt alive again.

My November 2021 Restrictions

I was able to drive twice this month. Both outings were to nearby places, but it felt great to do it. But I also knew that my body wasn’t ready for more.

The first half of the month was spent working from bed. A reduction in abdominal swelling allowed me to move my workplace to the living room recliner.

My power wheelchair was the mobility aid that made all of my outings possible. Grocery delivery and online shopping helped conserve energy and gave me the strength to spend quality time with my husband.
