Like it or not, sweltering temperatures are on their way!
Living with chronic illnesses like fibromyalgia and autoimmune arthritis is not easy. There are so many things that can trigger our symptoms. Temperature is a big one for me! My muscles and nerves react to even the slightest change in temperature and only worsen if I cannot cool down quickly.
Whether planning to spend time at the beach, park, or in your backyard, warm weather can ruin your day just as easily for the chronically ill as a storm does for the average person.
Overheating while sleeping does more than interrupt our sleep. It may set off a nerve flare or muscle spasms that torture you throughout the day.
Whether you are looking for hot flash cooling products or something to combat heat-related flares and sleep better, one or all of these six innovative products could be exactly what you need!

Wearable Cooling Products And Gadgets
Embr Wave 2
As you know, I am a fan of wearable technology, and as someone who struggles with body temperature, I find this device quite intriguing.
Worn on your wrist, all it takes is a tap of a button to heat or cool to your comfort.
It also has a feature to improve your sleep!
I love this idea because, with fibromyalgia, I often experience discomfort when chilled or overheated in the slightest. But it isn’t enough to warrant a wardrobe change. From the reviews, it appears that this product may provide the comfort my body needs to get through the day.
I have not tried this product personally, but it is on my list of products to try! The reviews have many people calling it a fabulous hot flash cooling product! Oh, how I would have loved to have tried this when my body went through menopause.

Neck Fan
With a neck fan, you can enjoy a cool breeze anywhere you go. With this hands-free cooling product, you can stay cool while cooking, walking, or braiding your child’s hair. I use one at Disneyland because it frees my hands to operate my power wheelchair, eat, and take photos.
For an added burst of coolness, purchase a misting neck fan!
Cooling Cloths
I cannot tell you how many times cooling cloths have come to my family’s rescue while at Disneyland. Southern California weather can be tricky. Cool and foggy mornings can fool one into believing it won’t get hot. But watch out! Because once the sun burns through the fog, you will feel like Woody from Toy Story did when Sid was burning his forehead.
They are great cooling products that will keep you comfortable while you BBQ dinner, enjoy a concert in the park, or while taking your dog for a walk. Speaking of your furbaby, they will appreciate a cooling bandana and/or shirt too!
Cooling Vest Or Shirt
If you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors in the garden, I suggest investing in a quality cooling vest or shirt. If you are like me, the pain and fatigue that heat creates are enough to make me want to give up on outdoor activities. But a cooling vest or shirt will help you get the job done without suffering afterward.
Cooling Technology For Your Bed

Mattress Cooler
If night sweats, hot flashes, or just general overheating while sleeping robs you of a good night’s sleep, you may want to look into a mattress cooling system. While I have not tried this cooling product myself, I have had others tell me that they love theirs. Here are some cooling mattress options available on Amazon.
Cooling Pillows
I chuckled when my husband ordered cooling pillows from Walmart. I mean, wasn’t my setting the thermostat to 65 degrees doing the same thing? Then I slept with one.
One night is all it took for me to become a fan of cooling pillows. Whenever I turned over or shifted my position in bed, my face, shoulders, and neck were comforted with a wonderful coolness. These are one of the best hot flash cooling products available, especially for those, like myself who overheat from their head first.

What type of cooling products do you use to stay cool during the summer?
We live in Vegas and my husband couldn’t do his job with his cooling vest by TechNiche Hyperkewl Cooling Vest. I’ve got one also & have used it for going to watch 4th of July parades & fireworks. More recently I was grateful to wear it during outdoor Stanley Cup watch parties. Living in the desert, this item is a must for us!
Unfortunately my experiences with all of the products I’ve tried weren’t as helpful as advertised with my bodies daily inflammation fevers that lead to excessive sweating. The technology still needs improvement so I’m definitely not willing to shell out the money they are asking again. But I’m glad to hear that they have helped others and it’s a good list of what’s available.
I’m so sorry to hear about your inflammation fevers. They must be very difficult to deal with. I do hope something comes about to help you soon. Hugs!!
I have quite a few of these, had a cooling pillow and wool duvet since my menopause days. Also, an enormous hat and a Koldtec towel xx
Excellent! I wish I would have had the pillow when I was going through menopause.
I just discovered ChillPal cooling cloth. It was a part of a gift bag I got recently. It saved my hiny in Arizona (100o). Then, unfortunately, I left it on the last flight home. Just bought two new ones from Amazon. Needing it now because it’s 90o in Michigan!
Oh no! Glad more are on the way. I used to live in Arizona and know how much a cooling cloth is needed there. I used mine at Disneyland on Friday, so glad I remembered to bring them. They are life savers.
Thanks for this post. I didn’t know about any of these products (except a cooling cloth).
My pleasure. I am considering a cooling vest. I think it would be great for an afternoon at the beach.
I can’t cope with cold weather but, equally, I struggle with extreme heat. These look like great ideas. I am intrigued by the Embr Wave. This sounds like a clever little gadget.
I am super intrigued by the Embr Wave too!
