Hemp CBD or Marijuana – Which Should You Choose for Chronic Pain?

Choosing between hemp CBD and marijuana for chronic pain relief is not as simple as you might think. Many people think that the only difference is that CBD does not contain the psychoactive property of cannabis, THC. But that is just one difference.

Hemp CBD and cannabis have different properties. While there are some forms of chronic pain that both relieve, there are some pains that are better addressed with one or the other.

Here are a few things that should be considered when deciding between the two.

CBD vs THC

Cannabis contains many cannabinoids. Both THC and CBD cannabidiol are found in marijuana and CBD products. The only difference is that the amount of THC allowed in hemp CBD products is below .3%. THC and CBD percentages found in cannabis vary between strains.

CBD is non-psychoactive, while THC is psychoactive. Meaning that THC will get you high and CBD will not.

Hemp CBD Pain Relief Versus THC

Each of these cannabidiols addresses a wide range of chronic pain and symptoms. I began treating chronic pain from fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, and endometriosis with CBD and THC in 2013. That was after a decade of failed pharmaceutical pain relief treatments. Desperate for relief and having recently moved where medicinal marijuana was legal, I was ready to give it a try.

Here is how they have helped me for the past eight years.

CBD products relieve muscle tension and joint pain. Hemp CBD relaxes my mind and body making it possible to sleep.

THC products do the same as hemp CBD with a few exceptions. In addition to relieving muscle and joint pain, THC also relieves nerve pain. The worst of my nerve pain is the result of a surgical error that cannot be fixed. Sativa dominate cannabis strains are the only ones that I have experienced relief from for that issue.

CBD products are my go-to relief from anxiety attacks. Whereas, THC can sometimes make them worse depending on the strain.
