If not addressed quickly, neck tension can quickly turn into debilitating pain! Finding the right relief tools often feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. However, taking the time to analyze the cause of your neck tension can increase the odds of your finding the perfect relief products.

While it is always best to discuss your health issues with a physician, you might be surprised that their relief suggestions don’t always include a prescription. For example, muscle relaxers may provide relief for the moment, but without addressing the cause of the tension, your pain will continue to return and worsen.

In addition to finding the source of your neck tension, it is imperative that you also find a product or tool that helps relieve pain and tension. When lifestyle changes and effective pain relief tools/products are combined, we feel better and experience fewer flares.

Let’s take a look at some reasons for neck tension and pain, plus some awesome relief products and tools to combat it with!

Neck tension can be caused by many things. Fibromyalgia and arthritis are just a few chronic illnesses that create pain and tension along with physical and emotional stress. Here are a few tools to help you reduce it.

Discovering Reasons For Neck Tension
And What Relief Tools Are Available

Stress

A huge cause of neck muscle tension is stress.

How you address a stressed neck depends on whether the cause is emotional or physical.

In addition to utilizing one or more of the tools listed below, meditation, prayer, or making lifestyle changes may also help. If it is your job that is causing the tension you may need to look for ways to make it less stressful or find a new career. Limiting time spent with or removing toxic people from your life may be something that needs to be done.

Discovering the source of emotional stress isn’t always easy. For some people, talking with a therapist helps them get to the root of their issue. Therapy also helps people learn how to deal with issues that they knew they had but were clueless as to where to begin addressing them.

Physical stress may require modifying activities, improving your posture, finding a new treatment for your chronic illness, or learning how to better pace yourself.

Tools I find useful to help combat neck tension and pain are my PEMF device, CBD balm, a magnesium-rich lotion, and a neck support pillow. These are in addition to removing unnecessary stress from my life and modifying physical activities. One thing that helped tremendously was limiting my time on social media and news intake. I also enjoy the release of tension that bedtime yoga routines provide.

Inflammation

Thanks to fibromyalgia, psoriasis, and psoriatic arthritis, my body is constantly battling inflammation. Joint and tendon inflammation can range from mildly annoying to extremely debilitating. My two worst trigger points are located at the sacrum and neck.

If not addressed quickly, the neck tension I experience leads to tension around my skull. It also puts pressure around nerves which creates even more pain and problems like cognitive issues and migraines. Weather changes, particularly the increase in temperatures trigger my neck and upper spine inflammation.

To reduce inflammation in this area I run extra PEMF treatments on the area, rub a CBD balm or Arnica salve on it in the morning and afternoon, and apply heat as needed throughout the day. A neck and/or scalp massage, neck support pillow, and a magnesium-rich lotion help me sleep at night. Recognizing and modifying activities that increased inflammation throughout my body has also helped. Dietary changes were also necessary.

Fighting inflammation is a never-ending battle for those of us diagnosed with autoimmune diseases or other inflammatory illnesses. Discovering where and why we experience it can help with finding ways to address and reduce it.

Whiplash is no joke! The Disabled Diva shares which neck tension relief tools helped reduce her pain and recovery time after her car accident.

Injury

Neck tension and pain from whiplash is no joke! I suffered from severe whiplash after three of the many times my vehicles have been rear-ended. The only time I experienced relief during the first 10 weeks following the first two accidents was during my massage therapy treatments. The moment the treatment ended the tension returned to my neck with a vengeance. My recovery time was decreased after the third because of having access to PEMF treatments which I did not have with the others.

Always discuss any alternative treatments with your physician. They can help determine that they won’t interfere with any other treatments or medications you take for other health issues.

  1. I get a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders, with painfully knotted muscle that’s so hard to deal with. If only I could take my arms off and give myself a shoulder massage! I’ve personally found a warming CBD lotion to be pretty good, surprisingly so as I didn’t think it would do much. It’s always worth giving something new ago because things work differently for everyone. Some great suggestions 🙂
