Why My Forehead Thermometer From Amazon Is My Favorite Piece Of Technology

Her purchase of a no-touch forehead thermometer from Amazon was prompted by the pandemic but has unexpectedly become The Disabled Diva's favorite piece of technology. Find out how it helps her understand her chronic illness symptoms better!

Like many others, the pandemic has prompted me to purchase a few products that I never felt the need for, like my forehead thermometer from Amazon.

I have an oral thermometer on hand. But with how I experience an allergic reaction with each use, you might wonder what took me so long to buy a no-touch forehead thermometer. The truth is that I really didn’t feel the need to know what my temperature was every single day or have to worry that having one would result in my not being able to enter a building for basic services.

With that said , today I am sharing how my forehead thermometer gives me power over the pandemic as well helping me better understand my chronic illnesses.

The Disabled Diva taking her temperature with her new no-touch forehead infrared thermometer. Now she knows whether she is dealing with an infection or autoimmune flare in addition to whether it is safe for her to go shopping.

My Forehead Thermometer From Amazon Gives Me Pandemic Power

Living with one or more chronic illnesses is terrifying. There is no such thing as a simple cold when your immune system is compromised. We do our best to avoid people who present symptoms like runny noses and coughs. But COVID has taken protecting our health to another level.

Having a forehead thermometer on hand makes it easy to take not just my temperature, but that of my family too before we head out to shop. Just because grocery stores do not take our temps, it doesn’t mean that I can’t be courteous and do it myself.

One of our favorite places to shop and eat is the downtown district at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. To enter the area, all guests must have their temperature taken. With our home being 40 miles from the park, the last thing I want is to be turned away because someone in my party has a fever. Because the particular no-touch forehead thermometer that I purchased came with a carrying pouch, I am able to toss it in my purse to use anywhere.

Chronic Illness Symptoms Are Better Understood

I have been living with my autoimmune illness symptoms for over 20 years. During this time, I have learned that not only can pain in one are or the other can strike at anytime, but so can fevers.

There are also times when I feel feverish, yet am not. I am not sure if it is solely related to fibromyalgia or if it is in conjunction with psoriatic arthritis, but with no warning whatsoever, my body will feel like it is running an extremely high fever. I experience the same aches and pains that typically accompany a high fever and my skin feels as though it is on fire. In fact, if you were to touch my skin, you too would swear I was running a fever.

Having a no-touch thermometer with me at all times helps me know when I am actually fighting an infection or dealing with a chronic illness flare. You could argue that an oral thermometer could do the same and you would be correct. However, I have a metal allergy and have had awful reactions when using a traditional oral thermometer my entire life. By the time the thermometer reaches the point of registering my temperature, my teeth feel like they are being pulled and my gums on fire. So you can see why a forehead thermometer is a dream come true for me.
