Fun Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas That Keep on Giving

Keep that loving feeling going with a gift that lasts all year long! Not only will your partner be constantly reminded of your love for them, but that you also understand the difficulties of their chronic illness.

Annual or Season Pass

Give them an annual or season pass to their favorite local museum, zoo, aquarium, theme park, etc.

A pass takes the pressure off of planning a full one-day outing. One reason I hesitated to visit Disneyland when I first moved to California was that I couldn’t rely on my body. I feared that my body wouldn’t cooperate and the money spent would have been wasted. Purchasing annual passes made the most sense. I can go whenever I want and only pull all day stays when I choose.

Annual or season passes give both of you the option to enjoy a few hours here and there at a place that brings you both joy. Having all year to enjoy it decreases the chances of increasing chronic pain, reduces the stress that a full day out often causes, and removes the guilt of not being able to be out all day.

Unlimited at Home Entertainment

Not all fun gifts require leaving home. Here are some suggestions to entertain both of you from home, while waiting for a doctor’s appointment, and heaven forbid when hospitalized.

Sometimes the best gift is one that can go anywhere! #chroniclife #valentinesday

  1. Kindle Unlimited: This gift provides a distraction from pain along with entertainment. Choose from 6, 12, and 24-month plans.
  2. Disney Plus: Having access to their favorite classic movies wherever they are is a dream come true for Disney addicts like myself.
  3. Audible Subscription: Perfect for those who would rather listen to their books or have difficulty holding a book or reading.

Budget-Friendly and Fun Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

Having a chronically ill partner can get expensive. Don’t let Valentine’s Day become a reason to spend more than you can afford. Here are a couple of ideas that will make your partner and wallet feel loved!

Dinner In or Out

I love going out to eat, but it is difficult to commit to an evening out when I am flaring from fibromyalgia or psoriatic arthritis. That is why I suggest being flexible with your plans.

I find it is best to skip eating out on Valentine’s Day. However, if my husband and I do choose to go out on that day, we make reservations to avoid long waits for a table.

Instead of eating out on Valentine’s Day, I suggest getting takeout from your favorite restaurant. Save energy by having your dinner delivered by UberEATS.

Last but not least, purchase a gift card from your favorite diner. That way whenever your chronically ill partner is feeling well enough for a meal out, your wallet won’t be feeling a pinch.

Rom-Com Marathon

My final fun Valentine’s Day gift idea is one that can be enjoyed even when flaring. Queue up several romantic comedies on Netflix for a Rom-com marathon!

If one or both of you work that day, you may want to schedule your day for the weekend or whenever you both have time. You could also do a mini version by choosing just one movie.

Buy a bunch of your favorite snack foods, put together a cheese and wine pairing, or have a pizza delivered.

Create a comfortable viewing area. If flaring this may require remaining in bed, lying on a sofa bed, or throwing a ton of pillows on the sofa.

There is nothing more romantic than a #ValentinesDay celebration that doesn’t end with pain or take days to recover from. #fibromyalgia #arthritis #autoimmunedisease
