I am Issuing a Restraining Order Against Chronic Pain

It is time to issue a restraining order against my chronic illnesses!

This year is turning out to be quite a doozy in regards to pain!

The first half of 2019 was spent recovering from multiple broken ribs and severe inflammation throughout my ribcage.

Finally feeling like I did before this nightmare began, I was excited and eager to resume the active life I had before despite fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, etc.

Slowly, but surely everything began falling into place. I was going for walks, using my wheelchair less at Disneyland, and regaining the strength that I had last year.

Then BOOM! Or should I say, SHAKE, RATTLE, & ROLL!?? Southern California was hit with not one, but two major earthquakes.

Those who know me are aware of my fascination with earthquakes. It’s not that I like death and destruction, because I don’t, but that I am truly intrigued by them. Part of me has been thrilled by this experience and everything that I have learned from it. But there’s another part of me that is far from pleased and that would be my head.

Mother Earth needs to calm the f*ck down!

I have had on ongoing migraine since the morning of the first earthquake on July 4th. I experienced relief after it struck, but it returned the following morning. The next period of relief came right after the second one on the evening of the 5th. I woke with a more intense migraine on the 6th and it refuses to leave.

It is now the 9th and we have an extreme (triple digits) heatwave on the way!! For me, that means swelling around my spine and having to fight off a heat-related migraine!

It is now the 9th and we have an extreme (triple digits) heatwave on the way!! For me, that means swelling around my spine and having to fight off a heat-related migraine! That’s right! Stop shaking or shake some more, turn down the heat, and cool it with the storms. I want just one month without any weather, astrophysical, or geological related chronic pain. Is that too much to ask for?

Connect the dots

I first noticed a sensitivity and connection between weather and my chronic pain when I was 30 and had just moved to Littleton, Colorado. We lived right at the base of the Front Range.

Hours before any storm my skin would feel like it was on fire, nerves felt like they had electricity running through them, muscles felt like they were being ripped from my bones, joints felt like they were being pried open, and my head felt like it would explode.

This was before chronic pain from my chronic illnesses became a part of my daily life. It was also two years before my first autoimmune disease diagnosis.

Later after I moved back to Arizona, my body would react the same to our summer monsoon storms. There’s a reason I refuse to visit Arizona during the summer since moving to California!

Figuring out who’s to blame

Whether or not my weather-related flares are connected to my chronic illnesses doesn’t really matter. Like the others, it creates reoccurring pain.

At that point in my life, the symptoms, that can now be traced to my diagnosed chronic illnesses, had little if any negative impact on my daily life. Occasionally, I would feel like I was coming down with the flu, but would rebound within a few hours or days. But that was it. Heat and storms were my enemies.

Later, after being diagnosed with all of my chronic diseases, I couldn’t tell you what was causing which pain because my body never had a reprieve. For 12 years I was in pain 24/7. It wasn’t until I took an aggressive and alternative approach to treat chronic pain and was no longer experiencing pain from my illnesses on a daily basis that I was able to see the effect that meteorological, environmental, geological, and astrophysical events had on my body.

While scrolling through my 4th of July pictures, I realized that this picture was taken when the earthquake hit! I was checking my hair and snapped a selfie with my eyes closed. Haha!

Putting chronic pain on notice with a restraining order

In the past two years, I have significantly reduced the pain I experience from my chronic illnesses.

Now it is time to take on the pain from super moons, solar and lunar eclipses, heatwaves, and earthquakes!

In the same manner, I went about decreasing the hold that my chronic illnesses had over my life, I will study both the events and my body to figure out how to reduce the chaos they are creating.

I will continue to use PEMF therapy with Oska Pulse, but develop a more aggressive approach to when, where, and how long I run treatments. My beautiful glowing blue device is the only reason that I am not in bed 24/7 with the blinds closed and a sleep mask on throughout this migraine.

I will continue to study cannabis strains and other herbs to find which ones will help me best fight off the pain and fatigue that these events trigger.

I will be watching every move the earth and sky make. My goal is to get one step ahead of them, just like I did with my chronic illnesses.

Most importantly, I will pay closer attention to the signals my body is sending. I used to believe that it wasn’t possible, but you don’t achieve a lower level of daily pain by ignoring your body.

  1. Ha! I love the Restraining Order idea Cynthia! Like you, I’ve noticed a correlation between my pain (both migraines and fibromyalgia pain) and the weather. I didn’t realize earthquakes impacted pain levels, but I’m not surprised, especially as they cause vestibular symptoms for some people. I love that you’re always on the lookout for connections between events and for things you can do to interrupt their effects. I hope it cools down and the earth stops moving so much for you. Blessings to you!
